Art Awareness is one of the oldest traditions at Brookdale Elementary. For over 20 years, parent volunteers have presented artwork in the classrooms. Over the course of a student’s time at Brookdale Elementary, from kindergarten through fifth grade, a student will have been introduced to 36 artists ranging from old masters like Pieter Brueghel and Rembrandt, to modern works like those of Picasso or Frank Lloyd Wright!
Parent Volunteers – We Need You!
Adult volunteers are needed to be Art Awareness presenters. No experience or art knowledge is necessary. PowerPoint presentations are provided to volunteers for each art piece that will be presented. There are also pre-planned student art projects to do as a group activity at the end of your presentation. Art Awareness runs from October – May with a new artist each month. Presentations last approximately 40~ minutes. Volunteer for one month or as many months as you’d like! Many working parents volunteer during their lunch break. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, please email our committee chairs Lisa Kalnicky and Emily Cropper.
